Safety in Old Hickory: How to Get Involved
Sgt. Robert Weaver and Lt. John Patton of Metro Nashville Police Department’s Hermitage Precinct hosted their quarterly advisory board meeting on Wednesday, January 8th.
A major MNPD focus has been on reducing property crimes, which account for 78% of the precinct’s total crime. Property crimes have dropped 6% and motor vehicle theft has dropped by 4% in Q4. Additionally, domestic violence-related aggravated assaults reportedly dropped from 2023.
However, Q4 had a rise in violent crime and commercial robberies. It was noted that one suspect was responsible for several crimes, and upon their arrest, violent crime began dropping again.
While this was largely good news, several recent instances of crime in the neighborhood show the work isn’t done. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for their Citizen’s Academy through Friday, February 7th for their March 18 – April 29 class. This class teaches citizens about the office’s operations, challenges, and impacts while allowing DCSO employees to gain insight into community concerns. Learn more about the Citizen’s Academy and register here.
Additionally, several forms of crime can be reported to hubNashville — anonymously if preferred. Learn more about how to file a request with hubNashville here.
