12th Street Dog Park Community Polling

Councilman Jeff Eslick recently unveiled a proposed layout for the potential dog park at the 12th Street Ball Field.

The proposal includes two separate dog park spaces for different-sized breeds, as well as an open space for the public and additional parking on Dobson Street.

We conducted a poll to gauge our neighbor’s reaction to the plan, and we thank all 194 of you who voted and everyone who made their voice heard at the April Community Meeting.

Our results found that 60% of respondents believes the location will suffice. The other 40% raised concerns regarding maintenance, noise, preferred other public uses of the land, and having other preferred locations for a dog park in mind.

Recent discussions with Metro Parks revealed that a dog park behind our new community center is still a possibility. April’s attendees showed preference to this location, but discussions for both remain on the table.

Crooked Branch Park was initially a top choice, but it was not viable due to flooding. Old Hickory Dam is also not being considered at this time as it falls under state jurisdiction, and it would likely have more hurdles to receive approval.
