Safety in the Village with Sgt. Weaver

In light of a shooting that resulted in a death of an Old Hickory neighbor, Sgt. Robert Weaver of Metro Nashville Police Department’s Hermitage Precinct spoke at our monthly community meeting. Weaver touched upon the tragedy in the Village, assuring us that it is still an active investigation with solid lead.

Sgt. Weaver spoke upon crime in the Hermitage Precinct at large. Although our community is justifiably apprehensive, Weaver stated that our Zone 527 has one of the precinct’s lowest crime rates with theft from vehicles down 15 percent. Weaver also noted that theft from vehicles is much less common in residential neighborhoods, compared to areas with a high concentration of hotels and apartments.

Additionally, Weaver shared the following resources for keeping our neighborhoods safe:

  • CrimeMapping.com for tracking crime trends in your area

  • HubNashville for non-emergency police assistance, narcotics concerns, welfare checks, and more. Please note that if your report is filed anonymously, you will be unable to receive updates on your filing.

  • Neighborhood Watch best practices and resources. There is a dedicated Neighborhood Watch Facebook group as well.

  • Hermitage Precinct details and contact information

  • Lock your doors, and remember to take your valuables out of your vehicle. Most car break-ins are preventable if no valuables are visible.

Finally, please note that any Facebook group posts indicating criminal activity at a specific residence will be removed for the safety of you and your neighbors. We kindly ask that you go through the proper channels outlined above.
