Community Center demolition underway

Demolition of the Old Hickory Community Center began on July 8th. Phase 1 of construction is anticipated to be completed by Q4 2025.

This first phase includes the building itself containing an indoor basketball court, fitness center, ceramics studio, and more. It will also include a brand new 7,000 square foot playground, a kid’s bike track, tennis court, pickleball court, and basketball court.

Many neighbors have inquired about purchasing the old playground equipment, but Metro Parks has confirmed that the equipment was deemed to old for resale.

We are currently compiling a list of nearby playgrounds available throughout the construction. All Metro Nashville Public Schools’ playgrounds, including DuPont Elementary and Andrew Jackson Elementary, remain open for the summer. Additionally, the Madison Community Center has a playground option as well. We will update the blog as more details become available.

Additionally, former councilman Larry Hagar spoke with the demolition crew regarding community members taking souvenir bricks. The crew confirmed that the public is free to take bricks, but only when they are not on-site. We advise all neighbors to exercise caution when doing so.
